The Director directs all aspects of Medical and Scientific Services' involvement on assigned trials. Provides leadership, management and direction of assigned staff. Assists in the implementation of department mission, goals and objectives, oversight of operations, development of policies and procedures and standards for the department.
• Ensures that departmental goals, objectives, policies, procedures are communicated, understood and implemented by assigned staff. Participates in management level meetings within Medical and Scientific Services.
• Plans and schedules workload for assigned staff; recommends appropriate staffing levels; and ensures adequate training and development of staff is provided in order to meet department and individual performance goals and quality standards.
• Serves as a resource and may participate in strategic business development activities including presentations to prospective clients, professional meetings and other business development activities for Medical and Scientific Services.
• Interacts with management and contributes medical input to client contract development process.
• Advises on patient safety and adverse event evaluation and documentation.
• Interacts with investigative sites on issues of patient safety and eligibility.
• Provides training of personnel on general drug development.
• Directs preparation or provides medical review of documents for submission to regulatory authorities.
• Provides support to clinical operations for therapeutic area-specific training and medical and clinical support of CRAs on assigned projects.
• Serves as Scientific Advisor and provides guidance to Project Managers on medical aspects of projects.
• Provides expert consultation to the PharmaBio group and supports the due diligence research of select compounds and/or companies as requested.
• Maintains awareness of industry developments and participates in professional meetings and authors relevant publications.
Qualifications
Board Certification in Psychiatry, from an accredited U.S. medical school, plus a minimum of 5 years experience in clinical medicine with at least two years with involvement in clinical trials. Medical license for practice in the U.S. Post graduate training in relevant specialty desirable. Excellent management, communication and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written. Ability to establish and meet priorities, deadlines, strategic department goals and objectives and the ability to motivate and effectively reward staff. Skills in providing consultation and advice on multiple assignments required, as well as initiative, flexibility.
