PPD is currently looking to recruit a Particle Scientist to be based on-site at one of our clients in Stevenage, Hertfordshire as part of contracted work from PPD.

In this role, you will use your use your knowledge and expertise to study crystallisation and isolation processes for the formation and control of active pharmaceutical ingredients. Along with an ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will require excellent oral and written communication skills to work at the interface with chemistry, chemical engineering and analysis.

This is a highly practical role where you will be working primarily in R&D laboratories.

Responsabilities:


-To work in a multi-disciplinary team and efficiently liaising with chemists, chemical engineers, analysts and other particle scientists.

-To generate, analyze and report high quality experimental data to support the design and process understanding of crystallization and isolation processes.

-To critically review and share experimental results, conclusions and next steps to other technical experts and multi-disciplinary project teams to achieve project objectives.

Basic qualifications:


- M. Sc. in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry, with at last 1 year relevant experience in relevant industry (e.g. pharmaceutical, agrochemical).

- A working knowledge of organic chemistry and analytical techniques relevant to Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients

- Excellent practical laboratory skills including safe operation of jacketed lab reactors, isolation equipment (filtration, washing, drying), parallel reactor systems and platform analytical techniques

- Strong team working and organizational skills including the ability to work in multi-disciplinary scientific teams and prioritizing and organizing own work

- A strong focus on quality, including the ability to critically review results and produce high quality data and experimental write-up. Able to write clear, concise reports of work performed


The ideal candidate may have one or more of the following preferred qualifications:

- Experience in studying chemical or crystallization processes using design of experiment and interpreting the data using statistical software such as DX9

- Industrial or academic experience in developing API crystallisation and isolation processes

- Hands‐on experience of solid‐state analytical techniques including sample analysis and results interpretation

- Knowledge of solid-state chemistry including crystallography, polymorphism, solvation and physical properties measurements demonstrated in an academic or industrial environment
