Discovery Logistics Specialist – United States of America - Permanent Contract

Role Purpose

The role of the MRL Discovery Logistics Specialist is to provide logistics support to project and operational teams within MRL. This position reports to the Director, Project Management. The incumbent in this position is accountable for interfacing with MRL teams, vendors/collaborators, Global Trade Compliance, MRL Logistics Operations and other Merck departments, to coordinate, manage and track MRL shipments to and from internal and external partners.

Key Accountabilities

Coordinating and tracking sample shipments from Merck program teams to partner sites
Liaising with teams to gather and process supporting documentation (e.g. MSDS, USDA permits, prototype documentation, VCP, HTS codes, etc.) for shipping MRL materials between Merck sites and to domestic/international partner sites
Liaising with Global Trade Compliance and Logistics Operations teams as appropriate to ensure logistics requirements are met.
Providing feedback to MRL Logistics leadership of any process improvement opportunities and supporting any implementation activities.
Identify internal and external training needs and coordinate appropriate training i.e., compliance and cold chain.
Be proactive in identifying changes in the customer areas that could impact support needed in logistics areas.
Keep up to date with changes coming from trade compliance.
Serves as Subject Matter Expert (SME) providing logistical guidance and expertise to the scientific community.
Communicate updates from MRL Logistics to the business partners.
Experience/Skills
Previous experience supporting scientific technical operations in a GMP environment
Experience with shipping logistics desired
Detail orientation
Computer systems experience (i.e. SAP, JDE, ERP, carrier systems, MS Outlook

Education

High School Diploma
Associates Degree or above desired
Academic experience in science or chemistry
